Allegany County Families Pray for Others and Communities
Some 100 Allegany County individuals and family members gathered Sunday evening, August 13, to pray for each other, area families and communities.
Building the Family was the focus of a second area-wide Journey to Community Transformation initiative coordinated in Island Park at Wellsville by a host of county churches.
The interdenominational event included a dish-to-pass picnic, prayer, and praise and worship with a live band. The gathering also dispersed for a time of prayer-walking throughout the park, seeking God's healing of deep concerns facing the broader community.
The intergenerational, multicultural initiative continues a communities focus on combating issues of addiction, abuse, racism, suicide, poverty, family dysfunction and more that pastors say are extremely serious issues throughout this area, the United States and the world.
Public prayer gatherings for August also have been scheduled, including 7 p.m. to 8 p.m. Fridays, August 18 at Belfast Free Methodist Church, 11 Chestnut Street; and August 25 at Andover First Baptist Church, 14 Elm Street, to pray for community transformation throughout the county.
In addition, ongoing area prayer meetings, also open to the public, are being held from 6:30 a.m. to 7:30 a.m. each weekday morning at Knights Creek Evangelical Methodist Church, 2987 County Road 9, Scio; 8 a.m. to 9 a.m. Wednesdays at the Belfast church; and from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m.Saturdays at the Powerhouse Youth Center, 23 West Main Street, Fillmore.
The overall initiative continues a renewing of minds and hearts of individuals and families for county and communities transformation.
Churches earlier this year joined together for a three evening and one full-day training by the international Sentinel Group that helps equip church leaders for renewal.
This was followed in May by more than 100 church-goers participating in a follow-up Solemn Assembly involving worship, declaration of community needs, corporate repentance, and prayer. The weekly prayer sessions also have been occurring on a continuous basis.
Further information on the transformation initiative and its individual components is available from Dan Kenyon, pastor of Wellsville Bible Church, at wbc@ne.twcbc.com or (585) 593-6471, most area pastors, and at http://ift.tt/2w7zFYw.
