Communication and Multimedia Minister Salleh Said Keruak has equated the opposition coalition to the icing which is piped on a cake.
According to him, Pakatan Harapan, similar to the icing, is something “cute on the outside, but brittle within.”
He noted how during a global conference of political scientists in 1967, Prof Arend Lijphart stated that the best political system to manage a multiracial nation is one based on consensus.
The main feature of such a system, Salleh said, is the cooperation of parties of all races in a broad coalition.
“Malaysia is the most successful example with regard to this system.
“The alliance (and later BN) have won every single election despite facing various issues and challenges,” he added in a blog posting.
Therefore, the minister asked if Pakatan Harapan would be able to challenge BN in the coming general election.
“Of course not,” he answered.
Apart from the cake icing analogy, Salleh also described Harapan as a coalition comprising partners who share the same bed, but have different dreams.
“Their cooperation has failed to show solidarity. Because of the jostling for position, three top posts have to be created simultaneously.
“Viewed from this aspect, BN's politics of consensus is the best for this country.
“This is because the formula of power sharing and compromise between the races is proven to be the most appropriate to govern multiracial Malaysia,” he added. - Mkini
