Troopers charge man who struck Tpr Craig Foligia's State Police vehicle on May 17th, in the Town of Campbell

The New York State Police at Painted Post announces that the driver who rear ended the NYSP Troop car and seriously injured Trooper Craig Foglia during a traffic stop on May 17, 2017 off I-86W in the Town of Campbell (Steuben County) has been issued several traffic tickets. This comes after the investigation was completed and a conference with Steuben County District Attorney Brooks Baker and Tpr. Foglia. The driver, 78-year-old, Kenneth Aukett, of Westmont, NJ was issued tickets by Troopers for the misdemeanor of Reckless Driving, and violations of Fail to Move Over and Yield to an Emergency Vehicle, Fail to Reduce Speed, and Driving Across Hazard Markings on the Roadway. Aukett is scheduled to appear in the Town of Campbell Court on 09/18/17.

On Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at approximately 4:45 PM, Trooper Craig Foglia initiated a vehicle and traffic stop on I-86 in the town of Campbell, Steuben County.
During the course of that stop, and while seated in his troop car, Trooper Foglia was struck from behind by a westbound vehicle.
As a result of that collision, Trooper Foglia sustained severe injuries and was subsequently airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester.
During the course of the night, Trooper Foglia underwent surgery and remains in critical condition.
The accident remains under investigation by the Troop E Bureau of Criminal Investigation and Uniform personnel.
Trooper Foglia is a 13-year-veteran of the New York State Police, and is assigned to Troop E, Painted Post.
