Andover Historical Society Exhibits Paintings and Prints of Andover Artist Anne Yannie Corrado

Andover’s Anne Yannie Corrado celebrated her 105th birthday on September 17, 2017.  In honor of this occasion, the Andover Historical Society is exhibiting some of her paintings and prints.  The exhibit is at the Andover Historical Society, co-located with the Allegany County Historical Society at 22 East Greenwood Street, Andover.  Exhibit hours are Wednesdays and Saturdays from 10:00 am to 3:00 p.m.  The exhibit will continue until the first week of December.  Some of the exhibited works are on loan from the Fountain Arts Center in Belmont, where the Corrado collection is housed in the former Belmont Hotel, a building owned by Anne Yannie Corrado’s uncle Felix Serio for more than 50 years.
Corrado was born in Belmont in 1912 to Emilio and Maria (Serio) Yannie.  Her family moved to Andover in 1928 where her father was a shoemaker.  She graduated from Andover Central School in 1931, and later graduated with a degree in music from Fredonia State College.  She taught music and art in Angelica for five years, and then moved to New York City where her talents in poetry, music, and painting bloomed.
During her decades in New York City, Corrado served as choral director at the Church of Saint Joseph in Yorkville, and as national president of the Composers, Authors and Artists of America, and the chairwoman of the National Society of Arts and Letters.  Corrado is the widow of the late Alfred Corrado, a French horn musician with the NBC Orchestra.
Corrado always maintained a close affiliation and love for Andover and Allegany County, and for many decades spent summers in her family home in Andover.  She drew strength and inspiration from her experiences here that are reflected in her poetry and paintings.  Corrado currently resides at Highland Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Wellsville.
