Obituary: George E. Wagner, 74, formerly of Wellsville
George E. Wagner, age 74, formerly of Wellsville, passed away on Monday, October 1, 2017, at Olean General Hospital. He was born on September 19, 1943 in Rochester to Harvey and Phyllis Cavanaugh. On March 9, 1969 in Wellsville he married Virginia Fay Button who predeceased him on March 2, 2015. George was a former member of the Immaculate Conception Church of Wellsville who, along with his wife Virginia, was very active in the Fun Fair from the beginning serving many years as Chairman. He was also very active in the Boy Scouts of America and was a member of the Knights of Columbus Council #919. Survivors include a son Joseph M. Wagner of Wellsville; 2 granddaughters, Chelsea Wagner and Ella Hill both of Wellsville; a step sister, Marleene Kouwe of Rochester and a half brother, Gary [Sandra] Wagner of Rochester; several nieces and nephews. Besides his wife, Virginia, George was predeceased by his parents. Friends are invited to call on Friday, October 6, 2017 from 10 a.m. to 11 a.m. in the Immaculate Conception Church, 6 Maple Avenue, Wellsville, at which time a Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated. In lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to either the Immaculate Conception Church or to the SPCA serving Allegany County.
