College campuses drive me crazy with policy because they never want the public to know that crimes happen at higher education institutions (really?). They can't speak to local media, but 'they' can share on social media. This policy is screwed up...police need help...but can't talk about it publicly. Here is what was posted on Twitter:

Okay, so really, I become curious and I called UPD. I spoke with a Lieutenant (pleasant guy)  who tells me they can post on social media but can't speak openly with 'credentialed media.' He could only confirm what was posted on social media. Seriously? Seems like you wanted to 'make an effort' but didn't really want the alleged crime to make admission waves. Alfred State - if there was or are crimes on campus and you need the public, open the gates and tell the public. Don't say 'well, we sent a Tweet.'
Hey, I get it...you don't want potential dollars to think there is crime on campus. The better angle? Tell the check-writing and grant receiving sources that you are on top of and actively addressing criminal acts.  
Editor's note: I attended Alfred State...mom worked there for years...love the place...but this secret, secret society is sad. If there is a crime and help is need, open the gates. You can share on social media but not with local media - really?
