Alfred University alumnus appears on popular television drama Queen Sugar
Nick Basta, an actor and 1993 Alfred University graduate, appeared this week in an episode of the popular Oprah Winfrey Network (OWN) television drama Queen Sugar.Basta appeared in the Nov. 8 episode of Queen Sugar, the Ava DuVernay-directed series that tells the story of the three Bordelon siblings, who return to the family sugar cane farm in Louisiana following the death of their father. The series is in its second season and has been renewed for a third.
He played the role of Steve McDonald, a New York editor for Nova Bordelon, a journalist and the eldest of the Bordelon siblings. It marks the second time Basta has appeared on the show as McDonald.
A veteran television actor, Basta has had recurring roles on Law and Order: Criminal Intent, and Law and Order: Special Victims Unit. He has also appeared in Banshee, Being Mary Janes and Under the Dome, and has played the recurring role of Corporal Eastin in AMC’s drama, TURN: Washington’s Spies.
Basta earned a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from Alfred University in 1993. A native of Syracuse, he is a part-time theater instructor at the University of North Carolina, Wilmington.
