Houghton College Symphony Orchestra To Perform "Autumn Magic" Concert

HOUGHTON, NY - November 8, 2017 - The Houghton College Symphony Orchestra will present an evening of music on November 10, 2017 at 7:30 p.m. in Wesley Chapel. The free concert is open to the public.
  “Autumn Magic: A Journey in Musical Colors” will include musical selections that reference magical concepts and themes, such as the overture to Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart’s The Magic Flute and Paul Dukas’s symphonic poem “The Sorcerer’s Apprentice.” Other musical selections will span a wide array of styles, themes, and techniques – much like the variety of colors in the autumn leaves.
Additionally, the stringed instruments will be featured in Richard Meyer’s toe-tapping masterpiece “Swamp Thang: Stompin’ on the Bayou,” known for its exciting rhythms and sassy melodies. Amanda Cox, instructor of voice at Houghton, will perform alongside the Symphony Orchestra as featured soprano for “The Girl in 14G,” a tale about a young woman who has moved to a new apartment and compromises with noisy neighbors.
The Houghton Symphony Orchestra – comprised of approximately 50 musicians, including music and non-music majors and community members – brings the highest caliber musicianship to entertain the Houghton community.
