BATH – Steuben County residents will be able to drop off televisions and computer monitors at the county landfill at a lower cost beginning Jan. 1. County legislators will vote on the proposed drop in fees from the current $20 per monitor down to $15 per television per monitor when they meet in regular session at 10 a.m. Monday at the County Office Building, 3 E. Pulteney Square. The lower cost was approved by the county Legislature’s Public Works Committee when it met earlier this month. Committee members said the decrease might be more affordable for county residents and result in an uptick in the number of monitors recycled through the county landfill system The county board also is expected to approve the demolition of a structure located at 137 East Washington St., Bath as part of its program to locate and restore derelict properties located throughout the county. The demolition will be through the independent Steuben County Land Bank Corporation and funded by the state. Other agenda items include:

· Accepting two grants from the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services for $210,897, each and distributed equally during the next three years.
 · Accepting a third grant from the New York State Office of Indigent Legal Services for $282,793.00, also distributed equally during the next three years to use in reducing caseloads. The funds will be used by the county Public Defender to provide more effective and efficient legal representation to income-eligible defendants.
A lighter note to the proceedings also is expected when the annual Presentation of the Fruitcake is awarded to an unidentified recipient. A tradition for nearly 30 years, county officials have been exchanging the original loaf more than 20 times in 27 years.
