Allegany County Public Safety Complex - an inside look - Part 4- Weapons & Vehicles
This is the final post in a multi part series on the Allegany County Public Safety Complex, which held an open house on May 15.Allegany County, unlike most counties in New York State, does not have a road patrol. In fact, even the mention of the service could easily end a sheriff's political career. That being said, the Allegany County Sheriff's Office is equipped with serious weapons, highly trained deputies and a vast array of vehicles. For instance, the Sheriff's Office is legally tasked with providing navigation patrol services at Cuba and Rushford Lakes. Boating under the influence of alcohol is no joke. The agency also has a specialized team to handle unrest inside and outside of the jail. Others duties of deputies include, serving civil paperwork (divorce, foreclosure, order of protection, subpoena's and more). While deputies are on the road, they are also duty-bound to enforce the laws of the State of New York. They arrest speeders, impaired drivers and assist local municipalities with special events. They also routinely serve warrants. It's not a true road patrol, but deputies took an oath to enforce the law. There doesn't need to be a dedicated road patrol to complete that function. The series of photo's below outline the weaponry that the Sheriff's Office has available as well as the vehicles to accomplish missions tasked to the Office.
