Andover paves way for fresh roadwork - The Spectator
By Chris PotterANDOVER — The Andover Village Board is paving the way for some new roads in time for winter.
At last week’s meeting of Village Trustees, the board moved ahead with road work that will focus primarily on North Main Street. The board considered two bids, one from Wayne Paving at $67,500 and another from AL Blades at $78,170, approving the low bid.
Department of Public Works chief Matt Zengerle reported the village has funding available from the CHIPS, Pave NY, and Extreme Winter programs. Zengerle noted that North Main was DPW’s top priority.
“North Main is shot. It hasn’t been kept up, and we’ve lost it,” Zengerle said. “That’s not the only street we’ve lost, but we have a few streets in the village we haven’t lost.”
The board considered spreading the funds around for use on other roads. Trustee Bill Emery pointed out that several village roads are in need of attention, particularly Water Street. Zengerle said DPW will address hotspots around the village using millings recycled from the North Main Street project.
“They’re going to go down three inches, so you’re going to get a lot of millings. I’m trying to rob Peter to pay Paul, basically,” Zengerle said. Read more...
