According to the District Attorney's Office, from March to September 2016, Olmstead stole fund raising money and stole money by forging checks totaling over $12,000. Olmstead was the department treasurer during the crimes.
Olmstead was originally charged with grand larceny, forgery and falsifying business records. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Tom Fuoco. Olmstead was represented by John Cappellini.
