WELLSVILLE - William  J. “Bill” Cronin of 146 Madison Street passed away on Friday, November 30, 2018, at Updykes Willow Ridge in Hornell. He was born on January 29, 1933 in Wellsville to the late Thomas F. and Mary C. [Dunigan] Cronin. On December 1, 1956 he married Ann Marvel who survives him.
Bill was a lifelong resident of Wellsville who graduated from the Immaculate Conception School and from Wellsville High School in 1950. During the Korean Conflict he served in the US Army and was stationed in Germany. Bill started working for Worthington Corporation in Wellsville and later took a job with New York Telephone retiring from AT&T in 1992. After his retirement he started Cronin's Communications where he continued repairing and trouble shooting phone service. Bill was a dedicated and faithful member of the Immaculate Conception Church. He served the church in many capacities including Trustee, Eucharistic Minister, and as a member of the Mercy Associates. Bill and Ann were 45 year members of the Wellsville Grand Squares that included Coops Troops and the Penny Promenades Camping Group. He was a member of the Pioneers Group and he also participated in the Fresh Air Program for many years. Bill will be remembered as dedicated and hard working man.
Survivors include his wife, of 62 years, Ann; 2 sons, Joseph [Karen] Cronin of Fairport, and Michael Cronin of Fairport; 2 daughters, Michele [Jim] Nicoloff of Hornell , and Kimberly Cronin of Oneonta; 9 grandchildren, Patrick and Michael Nicoloff; William, Kelly, Daniel, and Susan Bunchuck; Katie, and Nicole Cronin; Nicolas Cronin; a brother, James [Loretta] Cronin of Wellsville; a sister in law, Jane Cronin of Canisteo; several nieces and nephews including Shelly Callahan and Stacey Hungerford.
Bill was predeceased by his step mother Agnes Chapman; his brother Thomas Cronin;  his sister Lavina Voorhies.Friends are invited to call on Monday, December 3, 2018, from 3-5 & 7-9 pm at the J.W. Embser Sons Funeral Home in Wellsville. On Tuesday a prayer service will be held at 10:30 am in the Funeral Home followed by a Mass of Christian Burial to be celebrated at 11 am in the Immaculate Conception Church. Burial will take place with military honors in Sacred Heart Cemetery. Memorials in Bill's name may be made to either the Father Brown Mission Club or to the Immaculate Conception Church.
