March for Meals 2019 Campaign This Friday
This Friday, March 22, marks the 45th anniversary of the Nutrition Program for Older Americans in the USA. The Allegany County Office for the Aging and NYS Office for the Aging are joining in the March for Meals campaign, to celebrate this program and the incredible impact it has had and what it does.
To celebrate this special day, many elected officials in your areas will be joining our Home Delivered Meals drivers to assist in delivering meals to our Home Delivered Meals clients. One Legislator has also agreed to help serve meals at one of Luncheon Centers
Philip Stockin of Houghton, District I Legislator and Deputy Supervisor for the Town of Houghton, will be assisting Volunteer Paul Shea of Houghton in delivering on our Houghton Volunteer Route. This volunteer route is coordinated by the Wesleyan Church of Houghton.
Debra Root of Scio, District II Legislator, will be joining Driver Don Brown of Belmont in delivering meals in the Towns of Bolivar and Little Genesee.
Janice Burdick of Alfred Station, District V Legislator and Town Clerk/Tax Collector for the Town of Alfred, will be joining Volunteer Steven Jakobi of Alfred Station in delivering meals on our Almond Volunteer Route. This route is delivered every day by volunteers in the Almond area. Ms. Burdick will also be helping to serve meals at our Alfred Luncheon Center with Center Manager Debbie Pierson of Alfred.
MaryAnn Trice of Wellsville, Board Member of the OFA Citizen’s Advisory Council and the Allegany Senior Foundation, will be joining Driver Jeannie Mead of Wellsville in delivering meals on our main Wellsville Route.
Ronald Staedt, Jr., Supervisor for the Town of Alma, will be joining Driver Barb Root of Andover in delivering to residents of Alma on the South Central Route.
Dan Acton, Supervisor for the Town of Alfred, will be joining Driver Steve Speta in delivering meals on our Alfred Route.
Frank Karnes, Supervisor for the Town of Burns, will be joining Driver Jim Daly of Friendship in delivering on our Canaseraga and Birsdall Route.
Shad Alsworth, Supervisor for the Town of Wellsville, and Mike Miller, Councilman for the Town of Wellsville, will be delivering on two Wellsville Volunteer Routes.
Bill Muenier, Board Member for the Town of Independence and Manager of Whitesville Wood Products, will be joining Driver Mike McPeak of Wellsville in delivering meals on our Whitesville Route.
Allegany County has been providing high quality healthy meals, nutrition counseling and education to older adults since 1975, when 18, 305 meals were served. In 2018, 108,470 meals were served 10 Volunteer and 13 Driver Routes that encompass all of Allegany County.
The continued funding of this program through County, State, and Federal grants highlights the importance of improving the health for the older adults of Allegany County, and the critical role volunteers play in delivering these meals.
