Steuben County announces 2019 road work

BATH – Work on 71 miles of Steuben County roads at a cost of $5.3 million is scheduled to begin soon. The road work is in large part funded through the state’s Consolidated Local Street and Highway Improvement Plan. County Public Works Commissioner Vince Spagnoletti said an increase in oil prices has led to an upswing in the cost of asphalt, restricting the number of miles scheduled for work in 2019. However, additional funds from the state for extreme weather repair were cut from the state budget, which passed April 1, Spagnoletti said. The cut means some work originally planned for 2019 will begin this year, but be completed next year.
