The Sweden Township Police Chief was injured Thursday afternoon when the unmarked police cruiser he was driving struck an embankment and overturned. Chief Bryan Phelps was taken to UPMC Cole where he received some stitches and was treated for bumps and bruises. According to a police investigation, Phelps was driving west on State Route 6 when he entered a heavy rain storm. He attempted to miss a large quantity of water on the highway and the vehicle lost control. A mandatory drug and alcohol screening was performed. Coudersport troopers, fire and ambulance assisted at the scene.
