CCAC Issues Call for “Bump the Dump” Memories and Memorabilia
Angelica, NY - Concerned Citizens of Allegany County (CCAC) is asking for help from the public as it plans a weekend-long celebration in April 2020 to mark the 30th anniversary of the successful “Bump the Dump” campaign.
“What took place here thirty years ago led to a Supreme Court decision that protects every community in the United States from nuclear waste,” says CCAC board member Fred Sinclair. “We are determined to honor the significance of what can happen when friends and neighbors work together to accomplish a common goal through non-violent resistance. This is the incredible legacy of the “Bump the Dump” era, and we feel privileged to celebrate it.”
One major undertaking related to the anniversary is to develop an interpretive historical display that will travel around the county. Another special project being planned involves collecting and preserving an oral record of first-person involvement, particularly if these stories are being shared for the first time.
