One vote could elect a new Bolivar town board member
A lack of candidates has created an unusual situation in the town of Bolivar. In the November general election, two seats need to be filled on the town board. However, there is only a single candidate on the ballot. Sharon Evingham will be on the ballot as a democrat candidate. However, no party's could find a second candidate. So...anyone who mounts a write-in campaign will win the second seat (provided they are legally eligible). According to the Allegany County Board of Elections this morning, they heard that Edward Majot is actively campaigning for the write-in ballot. He operates Majot Auto Repair. Here's the kicker, confirmed by election officials, if two people mount a write-in effort, and they received more votes than Evingham, the write-in candidates will be elected. An elections office spokesperson said it has only happened once or twice in the past decade. Most recently, in a 2011 GOP primary for town council in Friendship, a democrat waged a write-in campaign...and won the seat...in a republican primary! An election worker said "local elections are unpredictable."from Wellsville Regional News (dot) com https://ift.tt/31dOeWN
