Village of Wellsville Code Enforcement Officer Jo Fenske wants a home at 86 E. Hanover Street demolished. She told the village board Monday night "I find the building to be an unsafe structure." She cited her authority under Local Law #6 of 2016. Fenske showed board members several pictures of the inside of the home. She says she has had numerous complaints on the structure and that the Department of Health and SPCA Investigators have also investigated. The home is currently occupied and tax records show the owner as a Cornerstone contract. With little further discussion the Board voted 5-0 to hold a public hearing on September 23rd at 5:30 p.m. at the Municipal Building to discuss the demolition. Both the owner of record and the occupant will be immediately notified. Mayor Randy Shayler praised Fenske saying "you've stayed with this."
At least four other homes in the village will also be demolished in the near future. Each property is owned by the Allegany County Land Bank and the demolition cost will not be paid for by the Village.
Properties scheduled to be torn down are 172 East State Street, 178 East State Street and 37 King Street. Another home also owned by the Land Bank Corporation and located at 51 Clark Street will be rehabilitated.
