Andover Historical Society Exhibit of Andover China
The Andover Historical Society presents an exhibit of fine Andover China at the AHS Museum, 11 East Greenwood Street, Andover. The museum hours are Wednesday and Saturday, 10 am to 3 pm. (Closed Christmas Day and New Year’s Day). The exhibit will be open through the end of January.
The Andover China Company manufactured fine dinnerware, lamps, decorative items and utility pieces here in Andover from 1946-1958. The factory employed a large number of area women, and the china was marketed locally thorough the Andover Hardware Store and other outlets, and nationally through companies such as Abercrombie and Fitch.
Our exhibit features items on loan from area collectors including David Witter, Dennis and Suzette Ordiway, Roger and Judy Easton, Andover Historian Kim Haswell, Andover House Antiques owners John Dolan and Mary Beth Southeran, and Mark Holt. Historical research for the exhibit was conducted by William A. Greene. Items on display include tableware, table and TV lamps, vases, commemorative plates, utility pieces such as razor blade holders, and a complete Andover China nativity set. Stop by the Andover Historical Society museum during the holiday season, and be sure to visit the Victorian Parlor in the adjoining Allegany County Historical Society Museum!
