CUBA – At the annual Allegany County Planning Board dinner, Planning Director Kier Dirlam highlighted the achievements of the past year including the groundbreaking at Crossroads for: a Quicklee’s fueling center, with food vendor and store at the site of the old truck stop.

Dirlam said the Planning department helped with an environmental cleanup and the nearly completed water service from Friendship to the truck stop. Construction on the project is expected to take nine months.

Over the past year the Planning department also helped obtain a $200,000 Microenterprise grant from WNYREC to help with startup businesses and to help with the expansion of existing companies, assisted in the process of supporting 2 solar projects in Belfast, two in Angelica and 1 in Independence, helped with comprehensive review plans for Angelica and Alma, site plan reviews, zoning amendments, special permits and the development of a cellular antennae facility, a new tourism website and county branding project. It also worked with Habitat for Humanity and with the Allegany County Landbank and helped towns and villages with grant writing projects. The department also welcomed several new businesses into the county including Dollar Generals in Andover, and Friendship, Mike’s on the Corner in Scio, Beauty Boutique and Salon, King Wok‘s new management in Wellsville, Wellsville Technologies, Gaylord’s Guns and Ammo in Andover and Rise Above studio in Wellsville.

At the meeting the Planning Board said goodbye to some long-time friends-Bryan Fanton who retired as a board member leaving a slot open for a new board member at-large. Planning Department secretary Cathleen Whitfield also retired from the Planning Department after 22 years of working in the department.
