No motive given for murder of 100 year old Corning WW II Vet

Corning Police today did not indicate a possible motive in the bludgeoning death of 100-year-old Gerald Early, a well-known World War II Veteran who lived in Corning. He was killed Saturday in his home after police say 51-year-old Brenda McKay pounded his head with a hammer. During a press conference Tuesday, police said McKay worked for Early as a personal care assistant. She was sidelined when the COVID-19 pandemic hit. Police Chief Jeff Spaulding told the press that McKay "was well known by Corning police." He indicated that she has been cooperative since being taken into custody. McKay is currently in the Steuben County jail without bail. She is due to return to court for further action on July 28th.
