Olean won't open city pools this summer

June 8, 2020—Olean—William J. Aiello, Mayor of the City of Olean, after consultation with Kris Shewairy, Program Director, City of Olean Division of Youth and Recreation Services, has announced that the William O. Smith Recreation Center and Franchot municipal pools will be closed for the 2020 summer season. “This was a tough call as the pools are a very popular attraction in our community; however concerns for the safety of our residents during the COVID-19 pandemic ultimately led us to this decision,” Mayor Aiello said. “The City will maintain the pools properly so they will be ready to reopen in summer of 2021.”
