Video-taping from the backyard of the Andover Haunted House Wednesday, Bob Meyers of the Andover Haunted House Committee announced that the Haunted House will be open this year.
It is one of the county’s regularly scheduled Fall events which has not fallen victim to the coronavirus pandemic. Cancelled events include the RidgeWalk and Run, The Artisan’s Tour, Angelica Heritage Days, Jones Memorial Hospital Gala, History Week and the Angelica Civil War Reenactment Weekend.
“We’re following all the guidelines from the county and the CDC and there will be some changes but we’re still going to scare you,” Meyers told a Facebook audience.
But the video announcement was for another reason. It was a live drawing for the winners of the Haunted House’s Cow Chip Bingo contest. The committee gave away $2,000 from the contest which raised money for its scholarship fund.
Meyers announced, while in the background another committee member could be seen turning the cage containing the entries, that scholarships were awarded prior to the Andover graduation to Madison Graham and Dave Hulse. Each received $750.
In the video Meyers asked for the drawing of the winners of the $1,000 and $500 giveaways and for the five, $100 winners. The winners are $1,000 – Amy Clemons, $500 – Jason Morse. Clarissa Green, Doug Miller, Pam Reed, Jaime Ordiway and Paul Covert each won $100. Meyers said the winners will be called to determine how to get their checks to them.
“We appreciate the people who bought tickets for our Cow Chip Bingo, so that we could do this (provide scholarships) for the students,” Meyers said.
Talking about this years Haunted House, Meyers said it will be open Fridays and Saturdays, including Halloween in October from7 to 11 p.m. “Most of the actors are the same, but this year there will be no claustrophobic tunnels and nothing hanging from the ceilings.”
“We will be following all the rules, social distancing and requiring masks, and hand sanitizer stations will be everywhere,” he said.
They will also be raising money for the many charities the committee has supported over the years such as, ALS, Cancer Services of Allegany County and Guiding Eyes for the Blind.
