Obituary: Janice "Jan" L. (Dickerson) Graves, 83, of Bradford, PA

Janice "Jan" L. (Dickerson) Graves, 83, of Bradford, who was a loving mother, compassionate volunteer and caring cosmetologist, whose energy and enthusiasm brightened the lives of many, transitioned from this life on November 17, 2020 at her home in Bradford.

On December 20, 1937, in Salamanca, NY, she was the daughter of the late Theodore Edward Dickerson and Georgia Edna Holyfield.  Jan was a beloved daughter, stepdaughter, sister, half-sister, cousin and friend.

Her early years were enjoyed as the youngest "kid" behind the counter at Ted's Sebago Diner in Ulysses. Jan fondly recalled "special holiday's" when the entire diner team-parents and children- would cast aside their duties and close the diner to enjoy an afternoon of swimming at the Brooklyn Pool. She was one of four children and will be missed by her brother Teddy (she was preceded in death by her siblings Donald and Judy). All four were excellent swimmers!

Jan was an enthusiastic athlete, achieving both as a swimmer and member of the high school cheerleading squad. Her love of golf lasted after her retirement from the course, and was fond of sharing her color commentary during Golf Channel broadcasts, making wry observations about the trend toward "short skirts" worn on the LPGA Tour. She made her own impression as the Potato Harvest Queen in Ulysses, riding down Main Street in the back of the town's only convertible.

Before moving to Bradford, Jan lived in Ulysses, Coudersport, Danville, VA, Friendship and Wellsville, NY, Bradenton, FL. and Southern Pines, NC. She was married to Joseph Kauffman in 1955, and welcomed their three children, Peter, Cassandra and Taylor Kauffman. Jan was also married to David C. Graves, who preceded her in death.  In addition to her children, she is survived by nine grandchildren, ten great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. She enjoyed reminiscing about her family over her collection of photographs.

After working as a homemaker, Jan served as an administrator at the American Heart Association. She held several business licenses and enjoyed her occupation as an independent cosmetologist. She found great joy in applying her skills to the benefit and happiness of patients at an area nursing facility.

Jan will be remembered for her spirit, kindness, and love of family.
