Town of Alma: What the Hell is going on?
On Monday, Wellsville Regional News received a press release from the town stating it was in search of a new Town Highway Superintendent. This drama has made headlines for more than a year. Also, in the headlines, the employment status of a town highway worker. There town board is at odds, multiple attorney's have been involved, court's have heard arguments and conflicting press releases have been issued...every time a statement from ANYONE is released. No surprise, Wellsville Regional News on Tuesday received a statement from the law firm representing the elected Town Highway Superintendent:
Our firm represents Alma Highway Superintendent Daniel Ford. I was surprised to read Town Supervisor Ron Staedt’s notice that there is a vacancy in the office of Highway Superintendent. Dan has not resigned and there is no vacancy. The residents elected Dan and he continues to serve them. Supervisor Staedt and Deputy Supervisor Vincent Bock have argued to the court that there is a vacancy, but the court has not ruled on that issue. To settle the case and put this unpleasantness behind the town, there is a proposed settlement in which the Town Board, in its November 10th board meeting, will vote to confirm whether Dan is recognized and/or appointed to continue as Highway Superintendent. Depending upon the vote of the Town Board in that meeting, the case may either be settled and resolved, or continue until decided by the court.

This site has been presented with the proposed settlement and decided NOT to post it because...it is currently under litigation. Here's the deal...the taxpaying public in the Town of Alma deserve better. This issue continues to divide an otherwise quaint, polite and loveable rural community. The last town election brought new faces to the table...which time has shown to only escalate the dispute. Alma - you are better than this. Countless 'off-the-record comments' and documents from every side have been offered to this site...most were not published. This site has publicly scolded all sides with this ongoing behavior. Alma - figure it out. This site will not accept any further statements or comments unless they occur during an officially recognized public meeting...even then, there is no guarantee of coverage.
