COVID-19 and HOLIDAY CELEBRATIONS

COVID-19 cases continue to increase across Allegany County. Our thoughts and prayers are with those that have lost a family member or friend, as well as those that have been hospitalized, quarantined, or isolated. We want all of our residents to enjoy a healthy holiday season, and that means that we must make some changes to how we interact with each other to limit the spread of COVID-19.

We ask all citizens to forgo large gatherings and consider limiting in-person celebrations to members of your immediate household and connect with members of your extended family in other ways. Although some people that have contracted the COVID-19 virus have not been very sick, others have experienced life-threatening side effects, and 50 Allegany County residents have died. We must all work together to do what we can to protect our most susceptible citizens.

We all like to think of the holiday season as a time of joy and sharing; however, for many people, it is a time of loneliness, and the restrictions associated with COVID have magnified those negative feelings, especially for those in our most vulnerable populations. Please consider taking time out of each day to reach out to a friend, family member, or acquaintance who may be alone and feeling isolated. This small investment of time can make a big difference to someone who may be feeling low. If necessary, do not hesitate to call the COVID-19 Emotional Support Hotline at 844-863-9314.

We continue to learn new things about the COVID-19 virus every day, and it sounds like a vaccine may be available in the near future. In the meantime, please remain diligent with wearing masks, practicing social distancing, washing your hands frequently, and limiting any in-person gatherings.
