Livingston County: Felony Contempt Arrest

LEICESTER - Sheriff Thomas J. Dougherty reports the arrest of a Leicester, NY resident on felony charges following a domestic incident. On December 7, 2020, Sheriff’s Deputies responded to an address on Mount Morris Road in the Town of Leicester for the report of a domestic incident. The investigation alleges that 19-year-old Geoffery Burnett got into an altercation with a female at the residence, which included making verbal threats and damaging a refrigerator. It is further alleged that Burnett had a current court issued order of protection in place against him where the female resident was the protected party.

Burnett was arrested and charged with felony Criminal Contempt in the First Degree, felony Aggravated Felony Offense and Criminal Mischief in the Fourth Degree. The Criminal Contempt charge was a felony because Burnett had a previous conviction for Criminal Contempt in the Second Degree in June of 2018. Burnett was turned over to Central Booking Deputies at the Livingston County Jail for processing and pre-arraignment detention as the offenses did qualify for pre-arraignment detention under the NYS Justice Reform Act. The District Attorney’s Office was contacted in regards to bail due to the felony level charges. It was advised that Burnett should be remanded on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. Burnett was later arraigned at the Livingston County Centralized Arraignment Part (LC-CAP) at the Livingston County Jail before Town of Lima Judge Harris. The Judge did remand Burnett to the custody of the Sheriff being held on $5,000 cash or $10,000 bond. Investigating the incident for the Sheriff’s Office were members of the Patrol Division, Criminal Investigations Division and Forensic Identification Unit, under the command leadership of Sergeant Joseph Breu.
