Village of Wellsville Mayor Randy Shayler is under COVID-19 quarantine and issues a Christmas message that asks people to think of others.

Monday night’s village board meeting took place without the physical presence of the mayor, who did take part in the proceedings by telephone.

Today the mayor quipped that he is definitely staying home for Christmas. After being exposed to the coronavirus, receiving two negative tests, he is required to stay under quarantine until Dec. 27. If tests, then show that he is still negative he will be released.

“I get out of jail on Dec. 27,” he quipped adding that at this point he is showing no symptoms and is feeling fine.

In the fall, Shayler called for people to wear masks. Tuesday, he said that his Christmas message to the residents of Wellsville is, “Yes, we have a vaccine, but it is going to take a while. Until then we all need to be respectful of one another and wear a mask.’

Recent recommendations from the CDC advise wearing masks, not only when out in the public, but also in homes when surrounded by people that you have not been association with.

Monday night’s meeting saw the reorganization of the village board and affirmed village appointments. Two were approved to join the rolls of the Wellsville Fire Department, Lexi Coats and Dylon Day.

The board also accepted the June 2021 resignation due to retirement of Water Supervisor Dana Harris. He has been employed by the village for 40 years. Under his guidance the water department has won several awards for water quality and an award for best tasting drinking water in the state.

The board also said goodbye to Trustee Jeremy Cole after he served on the board from 2016 to the present. Deputy Mayor Jeff Monroe presented him with a plaque to show the board’s appreciation.
