Welfare fraud cases disposed of in Belmont Village Court
Two women have received conditional discharges and have paid their restitution in Belmont Village court. The cases were closed November 29th. Bothe cases were prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Mike Finn.In the first case, Michelle Webster, 47, of Belmont received a condition discharge after being convicted of welfare fraud 5th degree. The felony charge of filing a false instrument was dismissed. Webster paid restitution in the amount of $2,095. Under the Social Services Law, she will not be eligible to receive any benefits for one year.
In a separate case, Michelle Prentice, 52, of friendship, received a conditional discharge on the charge of welfare fraud 5th degree, a misdemeanor. She also paid restitution in the amount of $522.90. As a result, she can not receive social service benefits for at least six months.
