Wellsville Police on Tuesday arrested Reed P. Haag Jr, MD, age 56 of Wellsville, charging him with 15 counts of the New York State Public Health Law section 3304 subdivision 1 (unclassified misdemeanor), which states:1. It shall be unlawful for any person to manufacture, sell, prescribe, distribute, dispense, administer, possess, have under his control, abandon, or transport a controlled substance except as expressly allowed by this article.
Police Lt. Josh Kear led the investigation and said the charges stem from a two-year investigation by the Wellsville Police and New York State Police Investigator’s assigned to the C-Net Western NY Drug Enforcement Agency Task Force. Haag was arraigned before Wellsville Village Justice O’Connor. Haag was released and is due back in Wellsville Village Court at a later date.
Lt. Kear said Haag allegedly allowed another staff member to authorize prescriptions. Kear said it was his understanding that Haag’s medical practice has undergone limitations. Police said Dr. Haag was issued an appearance ticket by investigators in April and the case was adjourned until Tuesday when he surrendered to authorities.
