PRESS RELEASE:Austin Morgan, candidate for State Senate in the 57th District, is stepping up to demand that politics be set aside regarding the much-needed repairs on the portion of the I-90 Thruway that overlaps the Seneca Nation of Indians territory. Flanked by candidate George Borrello and Assemblyman Joe Giglio, Congressman Reed and his Republican colleagues politicized an issue while adding nothing to the equation—they did not offer to mediate, they did not offer solutions; they complained based on partisan feelings rather than facts.
"No one disputes that this section of the I-90 is and has been in horrible condition," Morgan said, "but how has Congressman Reed represented this area since 2013 and not noticed or listened to the people who live here? Because it is a State issue, we need someone in this State Senate district ready to work with the Seneca Nation officials, with the Governor, and do more than just news conference spectacles and politically-motivated grandstanding. It’s time to put people over politics."
Morgan, as a State Senator in the majority, would be at the decision-making table and have the ability to negotiate with the relevant parties. Congressman Reed claims to be a bipartisan problem-solver, but inserting himself into a fraught situation while lobbing partisan attacks will only make things worse. He admits that he is speculating—we cannot take his words as fact. Cooler heads must prevail, and all parties must be working in good-faith.
"Career politicians like Reed like to assign blame to anyone but themselves, it makes them feel good," Morgan explained. "I’m sick of politics as usual. Let’s do what the people trust and pay us to do: work together, improve their lives, and fix the damn roads."
