Wellsville school faces $2.5 million state aid cut

School districts across New York are bracing for funding cuts from Albany. In response to the financial disruption caused by the coronavirus pandemic, Gov. Cuomo has said he’ll slash school aid by 20%. During an interview Tuesday, school superintendent David Foster said “for Wellsville, this is a shortfall estimated to be around $2.5 million, which is significant. Because of the socioeconomics of the region, school aid is the largest proportion of revenue we receive.”
Foster added, “I’m worried. You have to do what you need to do in terms of making cuts. If this becomes more long-term, let’s say, a year or two in terms of the aid, we will have to respond with regards to more cutting.”
