Congressman Tom Reed, Alfred University alumnus, plays role in bipartisan effort to pass stimulus deal
Reed, a Republican representing New York’s 23rd Congressional district, is co-chair of the Problem Solvers Caucus, a bipartisan group of moderate House members, which had developed a framework for an earlier $1.8 trillion stimulus proposal. He provided input to a group of moderate U.S. senators that hashed out the details for the $900 million bill signed on Dec. 27.
The process of how the relief legislation was drafted was outlined in a Dec. 21 New York Times story, in which Reed is quoted.
Reed, who earned a B.S. degree in political science from Alfred University in 1993, was elected to Congress in 2010. He currently serves on the House Ways and Means committee as the Republican Leader of the Social Security Subcommittee.
